Thomas E. Hellerich

Mr. Hellerich's present areas of practice are: estate planning, wills, all forms of trusts, trusts and probate, estate administration, estate litigation, power of attorney, medical power of attorney, guardianship and conservatorships, real estate and zoning, and business and corporate law including formation of new business entities, corporations, limited liability companies and all forms of partnerships. He has extensive experience in estate planning, complex business, contract and probate litigation.

Mr. Hellerich obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Nebraska in 1969. He graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Law and obtained his J.D. Degree in 1973. He is presently a member of the Colorado State Bar Association, Nebraska State Bar Association, the Weld County Bar Association, and the Wyoming State Bar Association. Mr. Hellerich is the past president of the Weld County Bar Association and served on the Board of Governors for the Colorado State Bar Association. He is presently a member of the Real Estate Section, Probate and Trust Section, and Business Law Section of the Colorado State Bar Association and is a member of the Northern Colorado Estate Planning Counsel. Mr. Hellerich is also a Past Director for the Greeley Chamber of Commerce.

Jerry D. Winters

Partner

Mr. Winters' primary areas of practice involve estate planning, wills, trusts, estate and gift taxes, general durable powers of attorney, medical durable powers of attorney, living wills, probate, estate administration, and ancillary probate. He has established estate plans for clients multimillion dollar assets, as well as handled complex probate manners. In addition, Mr. Winters practices in the areas of real estate, corporate, general partnerships, family limited partnerships, limited liability companies, contracts and other areas of business law. 

Mr. Winters graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law. Mr. Winters served on the Executive Committee of the Tax Section and is a member of the Board of Governors of the Colorado State Bar Association. He is a past member of the Trust and Estate Counsel, and its Estate Planning, the Orange Books Forms Committee, and its Uniform Trust Act Committee. Mr. Winters is a past member of the 19th Judicial Nominating Committee, and is a present member of the Northern Colorado Estate Planning Counsel. He is a past President of the Weld County Bar Association and served as a Director of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District from 1995 to 2014.

William W. Hughes

Partner

Mr. Hughes obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1972, with certification as a teacher at the secondary level. He obtained his Master of Arts Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1975. In 1983, he graduated from Whittier School College of Law in Los Angeles, California with his Juris Doctor Degree. While in law school, Mr. Hughes was honored with two American Jurisprudence awards. He has had an office in Weld County, Colorado since 1984 while practicing law throughout Colorado. He is a present member of the Weld County Bar Association, Colorado State Bar Association, and is the Past President of the Kiwanis Club of the Rockies.

Mr. Hughes has a general civil practice emphasizing estate planning, wills, trusts, probate, estate administration, medical and general powers of attorney, guardianships, conservatorships, real estate including contracts, litigation, and foreclosures, bankruptcy, domestic relations, and formation and representation of business entities including corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships.

Bradley D. Laue

Partner

Mr. Laue graduated form Colorado State University in 1984 and from the University of Nebraska School of Law in 1987. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Weld County Bar Association and the Colorado Bar Association, having served on its Young Lawyers' Executive Counsel. Mr. Laue has practiced mainly in the areas of corporate and business law, municipal law, real estate and employment manners, as well as estate planning, landlord/tenant issues and civil litigation.

Mr. Laue's law practice is focused on all real estate and business related matters, including purchase and sale transactions, foreclosures, business entity organization through dissolution, real estate planning and development, oil & gas issues and lender/creditor rights as related to real estate and commercial loans and transactions. It also emphasizes on estate planning and estate administration (probate) and municipal law. Mr. Laue has served as a member of the City of Greeley Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and several United Way and Colorado Bar Association Boards. He has also served on the Board of Directors of several other non-profit organizations and various other committees assisting local government in planning and policy formation. Mr. Laue represents numerous non-profit agencies, municipalities, and small and large businesses across a full spectrum of professions.

Mr. Laue also has extensive experience in probating mineral interests and curing mineral titles. He has represented numerous clients in not only probating their mineral interests across numerous generations but also in assisting them in leasing and in the buying and selling of mineral interests.

David J. Skarka

Associate Attorney

Mr. Skarka obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Azusa Pacific University in 2003, graduating magna cum laude.   In 2008, he obtained his Master of Arts and Juris Doctor Degrees from Regent University.  While at Regent University, Mr. Skarka served on the moot court board and clerked for a public interest law firm.  He also interned with the U.S. Army JAG Corps and was a graduate research assistant in the School of Government.

Mr. Skarka began his law practice in 2009 with Weld County Government, serving as a deputy prosecutor in the Weld District Attorney’s Office, then as an assistant county attorney in the Weld County Attorney’s Office / Department of Human Services.  During his six year tenure with Weld County Government, Mr. Skarka tried many cases, presented oral argument at the Colorado Court of Appeals, and briefed cases at the Court of Appeals and Colorado Supreme Court.  He is grateful to have served the people of Weld County in both public law offices.

In 2015, Mr. Skarka joined Winters, Hellerich & Hughes, LLC as an associate attorney.  He maintains a general civil practice, including trial and appellate litigation.  Mr. Skarka is a member of the Colorado and Weld County Bar Associations, and serves on the board at his church.

Jacey R. Cerda

Of Counsel

Ms. Cerda obtained her Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University in 2007. In 2011, Ms. Cerda received her Juris Doctor degree from University of Colorado School of Law. While at Colorado Law, Ms. Cerda served on the Rothgerber Moot Court Board and was Chair of the Honor Council. Ms. Cerda clerked for three district court judges in the 18th and 19th Judicial Districts of Colorado before working as a deputy district attorney in Weld County. Ms. Cerda then went back into academia and obtained a Masters of Public Health degree from the Colorado School of Public Health in 2015.

Ms. Cerda, joined Winters, Hellerich, & Hughes, LLC as Of Counsel in early 2015. Ms. Cerda’s present practice areas include trial and appellate civil litigation focused in business, real estate, and probate matters. In addition to her practice, Ms. Cerda also teaches undergraduate and graduate law classes as an adjunct instructor at Colorado State University. Ms. Cerda is a member of the American Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, and the Larimer and Weld County Bar Associations.
